UNLV Notes: Track team in Indianapolis

After a two-year absence, the UNLV women's indoor track and field team returns to the NCAA Championships Friday and Saturday in Indianapolis.

Junior sprinters Hudianne Harper and Alicia Tyson, both natives of Trinidad & Tobago, will represent UNLV in the meet at the RCA Dome. They will compete for national titles in the 55 and 200 meters.

Harper, the Western Athletic Conference champion and record-holder in the 200, posted an automatic qualifying time of 23.58 seconds at the Air Force Academy. She also qualified for the 55-meter race with a time of 6.80.

Tyson took third in the 200 meters with an automatic qualifying time of 23.83 and ran a 6.90 to qualify for the 55 contest.

Volleyball

UNLV volleyball coach Deitre Collins has been named to the USA Women's Volleyball National Team selection committee.

Collins was chosen by head coach Mick Haley to help select the players to make up the national team that will represent the United States at competitions up to and including the 2000 Super Olympics.

Ex-Rebel dies

Former UNLV football player Jack Gilmore died Tuesday after being involved in an an automobile accident Saturday in New Jersey. A memorial service will be held at the UNLV Interfaith Center at noon on Monday.

The former walk-on wide receiver played at UNLV from 1991-95.
