Birdhouse auction set

A birdhouse competition and auction is set for Monday at the New York-New York hotel-casino to benefit St. Rose Dominican Hospital's Positive Impact Program, which provides health and dental care for poor Henderson children.

The Birds in Paradise event begins at 6 p.m. in the Staten Island Room and includes a reception, dinner, judging of custom design birdhouses submitted by local architects, home builders and artists, and an auction of the birdhouses and other aviary objects.

Co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture and the Henderson hospital, the event supports an eight-year-old program that has been recognized by the Clark County School District for enhancing the educational experience of students.

St. Rose Dominican representatives work with school nurses and principals to identify children who need the help of the Positive Impact Program.

In addition to the auction, the program is funded by grants and donations from individuals, businesses, foundations, physicians, dentists, optometrists, health care professionals and medical supply companies.
