Colgate’s Foyle going to NBA

"When potential opera singers or great musicians are discovered, they are sent to a special school to develop their talents fully," Foyle said. "This is a choice that these people make very early in their lives. They choose to specialize.

"Fortunately, I did not have to make this kind of choice when I was young," he said. "In high school and at Colgate, I have been able to develop both intellectually and on the basketball court. But now I must choose."

And that choice Thursday was to forgo his senior year at Colgate and enter the NBA draft.

"I have decided to put my formal academic training on hold for a while to pursue a professional career in basketball," Foyle, who will turn 22 on Sunday, said in a statement. "This decision does not mean that my academic development is unimportant to me. Instead, it means that basketball has to take priority at this point in my life. I feel that I can no longer continue to grow as I need to as a basketball player at Colgate."
