Las Vegas Events to sponsor Busch race

Las Vegas Events, Inc., has been named the presenting sponsor of the March 16 Las Vegas 300 NASCAR Busch Grand National Series stock car race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, it was announced by Speedway president Richie Clyne.

"Las Vegas Events is a very strong part of our promotional arm in Las Vegas, and we're proud to have them on board," said Clyne. "When you consider the magnitude of the events which LVE backs, it is really quite impressive to be a part of the overall picture."

Said outgoing LVE president Tucker DiEdwardo: "Las Vegas Events recognizes the contribution that Las Vegas Motor Speedway has made and will make to attracting individuals to visit Clark County. In addition, the television and media recognition that Las Vegas and Clark County will receive from the sponsorship of the Las Vegas 300 warrants sponsorship of the event."

The Las Vegas 300 will be televised live by The Nashville Network, with a 1 p.m. (PST) start. It already has attracted a strong lineup of NASCAR Winston Cup drivers, including Dick Trickle, Dale Jarrett, Terry Labonte, Bobby Labonte, Joe Nemechek, Michael Waltrip and Jimmy Spencer. Also competing will be 1996 NASCAR Busch Series champion Randy LaJoie.

* EARNHARDT BOXED IN: For 64 years, Wheaties, "The Breakfast of Champions," has featured champion athletes from almost every sport on the box, with one exception -- no NASCAR driver has appeared on the package. That changed Thursday when four Wheaties packages featuring seven-time Winston Cup champion Dale Earnhardt were unveiled at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Alas, the packages only will be available in the Southeast. Also unveiled was the No. 3 GM Goodwrench Service car that will carry the familiar Wheaties orange colors and logo for the Winston Select May 17 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
