Orchestra of China comingto Ham Hall

Gourmet appetizers will be provided by Chins Chinese Restaurant in the lobby from 7 to 8 p.m.

The National Traditional Orchestra of China has been acclaimed by newspapers worldwide, including the People's Daily of Beijing, which in 1995 wrote: "The exemplary performance by the National Traditional Orchestra of China ... was met with unanimous applause. The capacity audience refused to leave after the last piece until the orchestra succumbed to their enthusiasm and played four encores."

China's musical heritage stretches back to the third millennium B.C. and encompasses a wide range of styles and instruments unique to China. In 1960, in order to bring these historic sounds to modern audiences, the orchestra was assembled, complete with erhu, pipa and guzheng sections.

Since then, the orchestra has performed throughout Asia and Europe. The current tour is the first American appearance of the group.

Tickets range from $17.50 to $43 at the Performing Arts Center box office and Dillard's stores, (800) 654-9545.
