Lawmaker questions ‘white paper’ support

Goldwater said that at a Friday meeting at a water pumping station at Lake Mead, his committee was told all commissioners signed off on the white paper.

Goldwater said he will check the tape of the meeting, in which Commissioners Yvonne Atkinson Gates, Myrna Williams and Mary Kincaid presented a position statement on the county's philosophy for dealing with growth in the Las Vegas Valley.

During a Monday appearance before Goldwater's committee, Commissioner Erin Kenny said she hadn't seen the document and had no stance on its content.

Kenny said the county commission needs to survey the community before it develops any position on county infrastructure requirements. Some estimates place those requirements at $8 billion to $10 billion.

She said she will request such a survey during the next commission meeting.

Goldwater said he will prepare a transcript of the Friday meeting. He said he specifically asked the three commissioners if the white paper was approved by all seven commissioners.

"If I was misled and it was intentional, then I will be upset," he said.

Atkinson Gates and Goldwater 10 days ago engaged in a well-publicized spat in which he accused her of a power grab over infrastructure.
