Spurs penalize Vernon Maxwell

Maxwell was suspended without pay for tonight's home game against Houston for making inappropriate gestures and body language, apparently toward Indiana Pacers fans, during a game at Market Square Arena last weekend.

Maxwell, guaran teed $750,000 this season and with the possibility of another $250,000 if he's on the Spurs' roster at season's end, will lose $9,146 because of the suspension.

This isn't the first time Maxwell's behavior with fans has gotten him into trouble.

In February 1995, while with Houston, he charged into the stands in Portland and punched a heckling Trail Blazers fan. He was suspended for 10 games and fined $20,000.
