New owners want to make Walley’s Hot Springs a top resort

"Right now it's a resort without a room base," said Dan Brower, president of Walley's Hot Springs Inc. "We are looking at turning it into a first-class resort."

Walley's now has five rooms for overnight stays, but the property is zoned for 150 time-share units. Brower is still trying to determine how much accommodation he wants to bring to the 77-acre mineral hot springs property.

He envisions building a series of low-rise four- or six-plexes along the Carson River. He also plans to revive the closed restaurant, expand the masseuse and spa facilities and possibly add some more pools.

The Brower team took over Walley's Jan. 15 after purchasing the property for an undisclosed price. Brower also has part-ownership in the Sizzler restaurant in Carson City, which he bought in 1985, as well as Sizzlers in Truckee and South Lake Tahoe.

Brower said he appreciates the historical significance of Walley's along with its uniqueness and how the property presents development potential.

"This is a special property," Brower said. "I have always been attracted to the mineral hot springs. I don't think anybody calls themselves a northern Nevadan who hasn't been to Walley's."
