Pushcarts on notice in NLV

Pushcart entrepreneurs beware.

It's illegal to operate a food pushcart in North Las Vegas without a business license. Fire marshals will be enforcing the law by ordering all pushcart operators to curb their selling.

Also, if an operator is stopped and doesn't have identification, he or she will be arrested.

"We found 23 carts in a quarter-mile area one day," said Fire Marshal Joe Skaarup. "The possibility for getting sick is there because food is not kept at the proper temperature. And as it gets hotter out, the possibilities of getting sick are greater."

Skaarup said until pushcarts are brought up to Health Department codes, no vendors can legally operate on the streets.

The business licensing department currently isn't granting any licenses, Skaarup said.
