Mayor Jan Jones has criticized Metropolitan Police Department for its policing of Meadows Village, a neighborhood behind the Stratosphere Hotel that has had a recent rash of violence. Five murders and 14 shootings have occurred there since July, Jones said.
Police officials deny Jones' charges, At least three officers regularly are on patrol in the Meadows Village area, police said.
Meanwhile, police are asking for more money from the city next year.
