Trickle witness sought

SUN STAFF REPORTS

Metro Police are seeking the public's help in finding a man investigators are calling a potential witness in the shooting of race car driver Chris Trickle.

The mystery man is not considered a suspect, said homicide Sgt. Kevin Manning.

"Investi gators would like to speak wiht him, hoping that he will be able to enlighten them as to the circumstances surrounding the shooting," Manning said.

Trickle was shot Feb. 9, about 10 p.m., while driving his car east along Blue Diamond Road near the Interstate 15 overpass.

Police have learned that the mystery man -- described as a white male, 30 years old, about 5 feet 11, with long blond hair in a pony tail -- stopped a Citizens Area Transit bus and asked the passengers to help the wounded Trickle.

An out-of-town doctor on board the bus and her husband rendered aid until paramedics arrived, but by then the pony-tailed man had disappeared into the darkness, police said.

Investigators are working on the assumption that the traffic altercation of some type occurred just prior to the shooting.

Trickle remains in serious condition at University Medical Center, but has yet to awake from a coma he has been in since he was shot in the head over a month ago.

His family has maintained a vigil at his bedside ever since.

Anyone who may know the mystery man or his whereabouts is asked to call Metro Homicide at 229-3521, or phone in anonymous information to Secret Witness at 385-5555.
