SB73, sought by Washoe County, provides that Handelsman's replacement will hold the post for two years. Voters then will decide who gets the job for the next six years.
A list of finalists for Handelsman's seat is expected to be submitted to Miller late this month or in early April.
Also under SB73, another of Washoe County's 11 district judges will be designated as a third family court judge in 2002. The seat that'll be affected is the one now held by District Judge Charles McGee.
