Resort ride shut down for safety violations

Inspectors say design problems have caused some 40 small steel tension rods to snap.

Building records show the resort continued operating the ride and neglected to report the problem.

Ron Lynn, assistant director of the county building department, said the resort should have let the county know about the problem.

New York-New York spokesman Marty Moore said the resort had to accelerate its maintenance schedule because of the popularity of the ride. He said crews were performing "routine maintenance" to repair the rods and hoped to have the ride reopened today.
