Letter: Nuclear tragedies show dangers are worldwide

On March 11: Nuclear waste catches fire, then explodes at Takainura reprocessing plant in Japan. At least 30 workers irradiated and radioactive Iodine-29 released into the atmosphere.

On March 13: Low tide exposes leads in LaHague nuclear reprocessing plant. Exposure to local population runs as high as 3,000 times the normal dose.

The heart of the Las Vegas anti-nuclear community goes out to all those whose lives, health and security have been destroyed in the latest "incidents." We question the figures released by official sources, citing factors of news management, invisible effects already at work inside the exposed bodies, future repercussions on generations as yet unborn and the vulnerability of the food chain.

The Las Vegas antinuclear community asks, "Where will it all end?" and most fervently prays that it will end here, with the closing of the Nevada Nuclear Weapons Test Site, the abandonment of the proposed Yucca Mountain high-level nuclear waste repository and the end to all irresponsible nuclear waste dumping.
