Fire official’s son charged after joy ride ends in crash

The son of a Clark County Fire Department deputy chief took his dad's county vehicle on a joy ride and totaled it, police and fire officials said.

Dustin Kourim, 18, the son of Deputy Chief William Kourim, went for a drive in his father's county vehicle, a Bronco, without permission, said Bob Leinbach, spokesman for the fire department.

A passenger in the Bronco reportedly was the chief's son-in-law, whose name was unavailable.

"I got a call last night at midnight," Leinbach said. "We're piecing together the details. Apparently his son took his county vehicle and went riding with it and had an accident and totaled the vehicle."

Dustin Kourin was driving in the intersection of Paradise and Robindale roads about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday when the Bronco collided with another vehicle, flipping the Bronco. It landed upside down, and slammed the other car into a block wall, Metro Police said.

Both men fled on foot, police said. While trying to flee, Dustin Kourin allegedly tried to steal another car, police said. Both men ended up at the Kourim home and the deputy chief drove them back to the scene, Leinbach said.

Dustin Kourim was booked into the Clark County Detention Center where he was charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, a jail spokeswoman said.

Mercy Ambulance paramedics were called and treated two people at the scene, police said.
