Abandoned house burns

An abandoned house in North Las Vegas used as a shelter by homeless people was destroyed in a fire this morning.

It's the third fire at the house, fire officials said.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department received several calls from residents in the area at 6:15 a.m., a North Las Vegas Fire Department spokeswoman said.

When firefighters from North Las Vegas and Las Vegas arrived at 12 W. Owens Ave., near Main Street, the roof was caving in and the house was in flames, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for the Las Vegas Fire Department.

The house was known to have homeless people living in it. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials were trying this morning to locate the owners of the house.
