1936 -- Detroit's Mud Bruneteau ended the longest game in NHL history with a goal after 116 minutes, 30 seconds of play, six overtimes, as the Red Wings defeated the Montreal Maroons 1-0 in the semifinals of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
1941 -- Long Island University
won the NIT championship with a 56-42 triumph over Ohio University. Frank Baumholtz scored 19 points for LIU.
1962 -- Paul Hogue scored 22 points and Tom Thacker added 21, leading Cincinnati to a 71-59 victory over Ohio State for its second NCAA basketball championship.
1975 -- Muhammad Ali knocked out Chuck Wepner in the 15th round to retain the world heavyweight title.
1980 -- Louisville beat UCLA 59-54 to win the NCAA basketball title.
