Barkley stays on sidelines

Barkley, who has missed 10 games with a bruised left pelvis, thought he'd be ready to play tonight when the Houston Rockets play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

But during a halfcourt drill Monday, Barkley felt his left pelvis tighten. Now trainer Keith Jones says there will be no more timetables on Barkley's return.

"Not being able to play is the hardest part, but I'm getting concerned about the playoffs getting so close," Barkley said. "We need two, three weeks of playing and working with everyone to get together.

"It's not like I can show up at the start of the playoffs and play well."

Barkley said the Rockets' medical personnel told him he could play against the Timberwolves.

"I had a great weekend running and jumping, but I guess I kind of regressed," Barkley said Monday. "I scrimmaged a little today, and it was just not good. I don't know what to say or feel. I'm just very disappointed and depressed."
