Boise may take Las Vegas’ place

Big West Commissioner Dennis Farrell's Monday announcement was a response to the LVCVA's notification it will change the format of the Las Vegas Bowl to include a team from the Western Athletic Conference against an at-large opponent.

The Big West has sent its champion to Las Vegas for the past five years to play the winner of the Mid-American Conference.

"The plan to develop a bowl game in Boise was drafted at a recent meeting of the Big West Conference directors of athletics," Farrell said. "Boise offers a lot of the amenities that are important for a bowl game destination: quality hotels, quality game facility, and strong local support."

He noted Bronco Stadium will be expanded to 30,000 in time for the upcoming season. He said Boise State President Charles Ruch and athletic director Gene Bleymaier support the idea and will be involved in creating a local organizing committee. They will meet in Southern California this week to begin the process.
