UNLV 7 up in Texas event

AUSTIN, Texas -- Freshman Jeremy Anderson shot par golf to lead UNLV to a 7-shot lead over Oklahoma State in the 31st annual Cleveland/Morris Williams Intercollegiate tournament.

Playing in windy conditions Monday, the Rebels fired a one-under-par 287 in the first round, then an 11-over 299 in the second over the par-73, 6,813-yard Hills of Lakeway Golf Course.

Anderson had the best round of the day, a 5-under 69. He followed that with a 75 and was one stroke behind Houston's Victor Schwamkrug's 143 total for top individual honors. Other UNLV players were Mike Ruiz, fifth with 71-76--147; Bill Lunde, ninth with 75-73--148; Ted Oh (74-75) and Gilberto Morales (73-76), tied for 13th with 149; and Mike Vance, 21st with 75-78--153.

In the team standings, Florida, Texas Christian and Houston were tied for third, two shots behind Oklahoma State. The final round is today.
