Richard Dale Morrison pleaded guilty to one count of damage to religious property in December. He admitted that on Sept. 19, he intentionally damaged The Church of Christ because black people attend the church.
Judge Philip Pro told Morrison Tuesday that his crime showed his great distaste for an entire group of the community.
Morrison's sentence was the maximum allowed under federal sentencing guidelines.
His prosecution is the first in Nevada under the Church Arson Prevention Act of 1996, which was enacted in response to the nationwide increase in church fires.
