Ceramic art conference comes to LV

In conjunction with the conference, running April 2-5, the Las Vegas Department of Parks and Leisure Activities is featuring the works of ceramic artists in the Charleston Heights Arts Center gallery, 800 Brush St., and the Reed Whipple Cultural Center gallery, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

Michigan artist Joe Smith has 24 years experience as a studio potter. His most recent work, "Axis," a series of textured and glazed plates, is on exhibit at the Charleston Heights Arts Center through May 5.

"Drawings on Clay, a Collaboration" runs concurrently at the Reed Whipple Center. West Coast ceramic artist Stan Welsh collaborated with his wife, painter Margitta Dietrick, to create large-size plates.

A progressive reception on Wednesday includes two additional exhibits: "Nevada Clay Invitational" and "Potluck." For times, locations and more information, call 229-4631.
