County says it’s not responsible for accident damage

Police say 18-year-old Dustin Kourim and his 17-year-old stepbrother took William Kourim's work vehicle after finding the keys in the father's briefcase.

The vehicle driven by Dustin Kourim hit a car, sending it smashing into a wall.

A resident of the area, Dennis Kinsman, said Dustin Kourim then tried to escape in his pickup truck but couldn't hot wire it and instead ripped out several wires, destroying the ignition.

Dustin Kourim was charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, a gross misdemeanor. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on March 20 in connection with the incident and later released. Las Vegas Metro Police spokesman Phil Roland said the information gathered in the incident has been forwarded to the Clark County district attorney's office for review.

The driver of the car and the owner of property that was damaged say they were initially told the county would cover their damages. Now they say they have been told the county is not responsible for any damages and that they need to file a claim with their personal insurance companies.
