Henderson cop investigated in alleged battery

A Henderson Police officer is being criminally investigated on a battery complaint filed by a teenager after the officer went to the teen's home while off duty, Police Chief Tommy Burns said today.

Officer Joe Roy, 40, was called to the house at 208 Tamarack Drive on Tuesday because teenagers allegedly were playing with a gun, which was a BB gun, Burns said.

When Roy and other officers arrived, the teenagers were uncooperative, Burns said.

"The father said 'get off my property, what are you doing here,' that sort of thing," Burns said. "The father was arrested for obstructing an officer."

Larry Wright, 43, and his wife, Theresa Wright, 43, were arrested for obstructing an officer.

Later, police responded to the same house because witnesses to the earlier event were in a fight with the teenagers, Burns said. The couple's 17-year-old son and his 17-year-old friend were arrested on charges of obstructing an officer.

Theresa Wright had audiotaped the earlier incident, Burns said, and "somehow her tape recorder ended up on the officer's car. Officer Roy, off duty, went back to the house to return it. He shouldn't have gone back to the house while off duty, and that's what we're investigating. The arrests were perfectly legitimate."

A third teen, also at the house, filed a criminal complaint claiming Burns hit him. The officer is denying it, Burns said.
