Henderson programs

BALLOON FUN! -- Professional balloonologists will train people in the ways of balloon animals during a workshop from 1-4 p.m. April 5 at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway, or from 6-9 p.m. April 16 at Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. The cost of the workshop, open to those 15 or older, is $40. Advanced workshops will be offered on April 12 and April 23. For information and registration, call 435-3814 or 565-2880.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING -- The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program will be offered by Henderson Parks and Recreation Department 5-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The cost of the two-week program is $45, and it will begin Tuesday at the Lorin L. Williams indoor pool, 500 Palo Verde Drive. The course is open to any participant, 15 years of age or more, who successfully completes a skills screening. To register, call 565-2123.

TALENT SHOW -- The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host a Youth Talent Competition 2-6 p.m. April 26 at the Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St. It is open to participants 3-18 years old. The cost is $15. Talent categories include singing, dancing, rapping, baton-twirling and comedy. Advance registration is required, and no participants will be accepted after April 20. SENIOR FITNESS -- Chair Aerobics, sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, are designed for seniors who cannot participate in regular workout classes but are still interested in physical fitness. The class is free and meets from 8:30 to 9 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway. Registration is required. POOL SAFETY -- A workshop, sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department from 6 to 8 p.m. April 4, will teach parents and older youths the importance of pool safety in an effort to curb the growing number of drowning victims in Southern Nevada. The seminar will cover general pool safety, chemical balance and storage and emergency accident procedures. The class will be held at the Lorin L. Williams indoor pool. The workshop is free. Advance registration is required and is limited to participants 16 or older. To register, call 565-2123.
