John McCarron: Cox wins $650 in tourney at Sunset

SCOTT COX took home $650 for his victory at Wally's 8 gamer at Sunset Lanes. Cox averaged 221 to outdistance the field. Jack Lenhart (1713, $425) placed second. Ladies pro tour start Kim Adler picked up the third position (1683, $270, high game 278). PBA member Rick Benard (1666, $175) placed fourth while steady Billy Hillers (1631, $106) finished fifth.

The prize fund of $1,886 was a large payout (87%) in relation to the number of entries. It is Wally's policy to accommodate players with these kinds of percentage payouts.

The Gold Coast Shootout was won by Larry Ike ($110), who beat Sean McCaffrey ($65) 191-170. The Gold Coast Shootout is held every Thursday evening at 11:30 PM with a $25 entry fee. Call Jason Gupton at 367-4700 for details.

The Senior Scratch Bowlers Tour event at Sunset Lanes went to east coast native Anthony Marine. Marine averaged an incredible 244 drubbing an impressive field at the Orleans. The former Connecticut kegler also won the doubles with partner Tom Wellock, combining for a score of 2220. Marine made $427 for the day.

Always tough Gerald Baird (1203, $150) was second. Other top places included third, Dennis Laux (1152, $125); fourth, Dave Deken (1130, $105); fifth, Ron Kolch (1128, $88) and Vaughn Doody (1128, $88); seventh, Larry Rumple (1115, $70); eighth, Roger Johnson (1078, $60); ninth, Lee Lamont (1076, $55); 10th, Marty Boyle (1062, $60); 12th, Bill Kaiser (1057, $40); and Super Senior division, Robert Klein (1022, $40) and Jerry Herren (1014, $40).
