Letter: Police chief’s DUI arrest a fair application of the law

I was riding a motorcycle with an alcohol content that was above the legal limit, my chances of hurting anyone else, but myself, were a lot less than if I were driving a city-owned van on my off time. Do you think that I got any breaks? The only break I got was to my leg in the accident, no one else was involved. But because I ride a Harley, I did not deserve the right to be talked to in a respectful manner. My reply from the cop at the scene was "You broke the law -- period." End of conversation.

I, like Mr. Nelson, did not grovel for mercy or special treatment, and of course I didn't receive any. I don't care who you are, the laws should apply to everyone the same. I don't know Mr. Nelson, but I respect the way he responded, and this does not make him a bad person to me. If he was to run for "judge," I would vote for him.

He, like myself too a gamble and lost. I would like to commend the cop that busted him, and if he has any problems from the rest of Metro there is an opening for chief of police in North Town.
