Nominations accepted for Mother of the Year awards

Nominations are being accepted for the 27th annual Clark County Mother of the Year awards.

The deadline is April 7. The awards will be presented at 2 p.m. April 27 at the Gold Coast Ballroom.

Paula Francis, co-anchor of KLAS Channel 8, will emcee the awards presentation and read the letters of nomination.

To nominate a woman, send a letter detailing what she has meant to her family and how she has affected their lives; and her accomplishments in the community and in her career, where applicable.

Individuals and organizations can nominate someone for an award. Include your name and phone number with the letter, which should be sent to:

Sandra Thompson, Mother of the Year Awards, 800 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89107.

Awards will be made in various categories, including Education, Business, Military, Inspirational, Exemplary, Humanitarian, Volunteer, Nurturing and Enterprising, Foster and Pioneer.

The awards committee is comprised of a nonprofit group of Las Vegas women dedicated to honoring the "unsung heroes" of Clark County -- women who have made a difference in the lives of their children and in their community.

The awards ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will feature special songs by Court Petrie, a uniquely talented student at the Meadows School.

Refreshments will be served. The Ballroom is provided by the Gold Coast.
