* SHELLING OUT FOR CHARITY -- The Roadhouse Grill, 521 Stephanie St., in Henderson has pledged to "Make A Difference" by Shelling Out for Charity. All donations from the Roadhouse Grill will go to support Regina Hall and the Marian Residence, both of which are managed by Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada in Henderson. The Marian Residence helps senior women 60 and older; Regina Hall assists young women between the ages of 10 and 18. For more information, call Myra Davis, 565-7711.

Getting results

* MERVYN'S BACK-TO-SCHOOL -- A free back-to-school shopping spree for 140 underprivileged kids from Ruby Thomas Elementary School and the Boys & Girls Club was held recently at several local Mervyn's stores. Each store provided an average of $100 per child, in addition to a 10 percent discount on all purchases. Volunteers from local nonprofit organizations provided shopping assistance in addition to a variety of entertainment and refreshments. The event hopes to have helped kids build self-esteem by providing them with brand new clothes and shoes for back-to-school.

Honors

* UNLV SENIOR THEATER PROGRAM -- The Department of Theatre Arts at UNLV has been honored by Stage Directions magazine for its pioneering work in senior theater. The UNLV Department of Theatre hosted the first senior theater conference in 1993 and followed with others in 1995 and 1997. It provides older students an opportunity to study with outstanding faculty members.

Officers

* CLARK COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY -- The Clark County Medical Society has installed new officers including Dr. Kazem Fathie, a Las Vegas neurosurgeon, who is the society's 44th president. He has practiced in Las Vegas since 1977 and served on the society's board of trustees since 1990. Other new officers are: Dr. Mitch Keamy, immediate past president; Dr. Jeffrey Cichon, president-elect; Dr. Arnold Wax, treasurer; Dr. Raul Meoz, secretary; and Dr. Robert Horne, Nevada State Medical Association southern delegation chair. The Clark County Medical Society is a non-profit professional association for physicians that was founded in 1955. It is the local affiliate of the American Medical Association.

* RANCHO REUNION -- Rancho Hill School Class of 1978 will have its 20-year reunion Sept. 25-27. Activities will include a reacquaintance social, Hawaiian night, picnic and barbecue. For reservations or more information, call 255-5641.

* '60S REUNION -- Las Vegas High School Class of 1968 will have its 30-year reunion 7-11 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Gold Coast hotel-casino. All classes from 1960-1969 are invited to attend. * 24TH INFANTRY -- The Army's 24th Infantry Division Association is conducting a nationwide search for men who have served in the division. The association, with a membership of about 5,000, holds annual reunions for its members. This year's reunion will be Sept. 23-27 in Arkansas. * DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM -- Desert Springs Hospital is encouraging possible diabetes patients to be tested as part of an early intervention program. The first phase of this program will include a variety of television and radio public service announcements. For details on how you can be tested, call 369-7560.

* FOOD DRIVE -- ATI Title of Nevada is holding a food drive at all three of their locations in response to Salvation Army's food shortage. ATI Title of Nevada is a full-service title and escrow company serving the Las Vegas Valley. The company has three offices in Southern Nevada; a new office 4100 W. Flamingo Road, Suite 1000, one in Summerlin at 1231 Town Center Dr., one at 4160 S. Pecos Rd. Donations may be delivered to any of their three locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

* MUSIC FOR HOPE -- Music for Hope Inc., is seeking volunteers to assist with upcoming events. Anyone interested may attend its monthly meetings held 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd. For information or reservations, call 880-7900.

* WOMEN WANTED -- The Junior Mesquite Club of Las Vegas is looking for women 21 and older to help make a difference in the community. The nonprofit organization, that was organized more than 35 years ago to meet the needs of the growing community, is seeking to increase its members. Club activities include an annual art auction to raise money for charities, a layette program at University Medical Center, food collections and school supply drives for at-risk schools. This year the club is specializing in helping at-risk children. The club is part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and currently has 60 to 65 members. For more information, call 436-6969.
