Griego, who is the manager of the investment recovery department for Nevada Power Co., moved from Ward 2 into Ward 1 on May 1.
City Councilman Michael McDonald represents the ward now, and is mayor pro tem. Mayor Jan Laverty Jones is running for governor. If elected, McDonald would become mayor.
McDonald said if Jones doesn't run for a third term as mayor in 1999 that he would run for the post. McDonald was elected to his post in 1995.
