Workers begin costly process of checking 7,474 signatures in recall petition

Dozens of county and state workers are involved in the process at the Clark County Registrar of Voters office.

The process was ordered last week by Secretary of State Dean Heller. It will take at least a week and could cost as much as $25,000 in overtime, lodging and travel for workers from Carson City and Reno who are involved in the recount.

After working 11 hours Wednesday, workers had completed final checks on 100 of the 959 pages of petitions turned in May 8 by the Citizens for Honest and Responsible Government organization. Heller and Clark County Registrar of Voters Kathryn Ferguson say they will not reveal how many signatures have been rejected until all are checked.
