Obituaries for October 1, 1998

Joseph Ballas, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born June 15, 1919, in Aliquippa, Pa. A resident for 19 years, he was a civil service instrumentation specialist, a World War II Air Force veteran, a Pearl Harbor survivor, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7283 in Lancaster, Calif., and American Legion Post 8 in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his wife, Olive L.; one daughter, Beryl C. Maher of Tehachapi, Calif.; three brothers, Andrew Ballas of Parma, Ohio, Paul Ballas of Cleveland and Edward Ballas of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Ann Balog of Berea, Ohio, and Mary Schock of Euclid, Ohio; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Services will be 9 a.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

EUGENE JOHN BLICHARZ

Eugene John Blicharz, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Bessmer, Mich. A resident for 15 years, he was an Inland Container machine operator and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three daughters, Carol Lynn Myers of Rockford, Ill., and Susan Veronica Masek and Linda Marie Bueno, both of Las Vegas; one son, Edward Eugene Blicharz of Las Vegas; four brothers, Wally Blicharz of Cudahy, Wis., Danny Blicharz of Phoenix and Raymond Blicharz and Bernard Blicharz Jr., both of Wisconsin; one sister, Jeanne Kostelski of Wisconsin; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Calvary Chapel of Spring Valley, 7175 W. Oquendo Road. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

JANICE BRIGGS

Janice Briggs, 64, of Las Vegas died Sept. 10 in a local hospital. She was born March 27, 1934, in Denver. A resident for six years, she was a retired manager of an antique shop.

She is survived by her husband, Erving; one daughter, Susan Smiley, and one son, Jimmy Clinton Crable, both of Las Vegas; one brother, George Cheatwood of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

VERLA D. BROWN

Verla D. Brown, 64, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. She was born Nov. 6, 1933, in Salina, Kan. A resident for 43 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Edward H.; one son, Robert Brown, and one daughter, Aimee Brown, both of Las Vegas.

Nevada Funeral Service-Nevada Cremation or Burial Society, 2983 Fremont St., is handling arrangements.

DIANA M. CICHOCKI

Diana M. Cichocki, 59, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Wyandotte, Mich. A resident for 12 years, she was a hotel housekeeper.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; three daughters, Elizabeth Portera of Boyne City, Mich., Julianna Tremble of North Las Vegas and Victoria Cichocki of Las Vegas; four sons, Martin Cichocki of Haslett, Mich., Timothy Cichocki of Escondido, Calif., Paul Cichocki of North Las Vegas and Patrick Cichocki of Las Vegas; her mother, Elizabeth Shuryan of Wyandotte, Mich.; three sisters, Marlene Wunderlin of Watertown, Wis., Pauline Shuryan of Northville, Mich., and Sheila Frelick of Chesterfield, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Road, Henderson. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

JACQUELINE MAY DRAKE

Jacqueline May Drake, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born July 11, 1922, in Little Rock, Ark. A resident for 19 years, she was a retired civil service art department supervisor, former president of the Las Vegas Club for the Deaf and a member of the Nevada Association for the Deaf.

She is survived by her husband, Warren J.; two daughters, Carlotta Eckhart of Hemet, Calif., and Johanna Liebert of Lancaster, Pa.; one son, Adrian N. Drake of Crestone, Colo.; one sister, Caledonia Brown of Hemet; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

JEANNE D. HARRIS

Jeanne D. Harris, 66, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 23, 1932, in Los Angeles. A resident for 10 years, she was a retired elementary school teacher.

She is survived by three sons, James Bradley Harris of New York City, Russell A. Harris of Port Moresby, New Guinea, and Christopher P. Harris of Sydney, Australia; one daughter, Sharon L. Harris of Bathurst, Australia; one sister, Winnifred Lusk of Santa Maria, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 9 a.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

JUANITA HARTL

Juanita Hartl, 62, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born May 16, 1936, in Grand Rapids, Mich. A resident for 36 years, she was a retired office manager for the Clark County School District for more than 30 years.

She is survived by her husband, Lauren; two daughters, Jill Hermann of Redlands, Calif., and Terri Tarbett of Las Vegas; one brother, Ron Wolter of Red Wing, Minn.; one sister, Donna Nelson of Grand Rapids; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 4 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

WILLIE C. JACKSON

Willie C. Jackson, 26, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 7, 1972, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a paramedic.

He is survived by three daughters, Willesha L. Jackson, Kionna and Kyani, his mother, Jeraldine Day, his father, Cleveland Jackson, and four sisters, Darlene Richardson, Cormalle Arinwine, Latasha Day and Christy Jackson, all of Las Vegas; four brothers, Michael Matlock, Terry Jackson and Byron Jackson, all of Las Vegas, and Kermit Day Jr. of Phoenix; and his grandmother, Maggie Stewart of Las Vegas.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be noon Friday in Carver Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

WARREN C. JONES

Warren C. Jones, 78, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 7, 1919, in Brookfield, Mo. A resident for 10 years, he was a postal carrier, a World War Army veteran and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.

He is survived by his wife, Lela Mae; two daughters, Sharon Lynn Gardner of Ojai, Calif., and Teri Sue Mann of Chatsworth, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 9:15 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

THELMA B. 'TONI' KEENAN

Thelma B. "Toni" Keenan, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Wheeling, W.Va. A resident for five years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Donna Boyer, one granddaughter, Diane Winslow, two grandsons, Jarrad Winslow and Jesse Winslow, and one great-granddaughter, Daria Winslow, all of Las Vegas.

A memorial service was scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

LOUIE MAES

Louie Maes, 52, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 14, 1945, in Brighton, Colo. A resident for 31 years, he was a gardener.

He is survived by two sons, Steve Maes and Chris Maes, one sister, Juanita Sanchez, and two brothers, Raymond Maes and Bibian Maes, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled noon until 6 p.m. services Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

ALEXANDER MOORE

Alexander Moore, 55, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 29, 1942, in Shreveport, La. A resident for six years, he was a self-employed truck driver.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja; two daughters, Grace Webster of Las Vegas and Denise Webster of Lynwood, Calif.; one son, Alex Moore Jr. of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Friday in the LDS Evergreen Ward Relief Society Room, 6100 W. Alta Drive. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

ELEONOR ROSARIO RIVERA

Eleonor Rosario Rivera, 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 17, 1928, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. A resident for 13 years, she was a retired nurse and a member of the Puerto Rican Organization of Las Vegas.

She is survived by one daughter, Lucy A. Nimphius, and one son, Gilberto Rivera Jr., both of New York; two brothers, Juan Cabrera and Agustin Rosario, both of San Juan; three sisters, Maria Rosario of Las Vegas, Carmen Andino of San Juan and Virginia Rosario of the Bronx, N.Y.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 10 a.m. Sunday in Palm Chapel, Jones. Graveside services will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Northwest.

EVELYN ROSEMARK

Evelyn Rosemark, 82, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 26, 1915, in Priceburg, Pa. A resident for nine years, she was a retired real estate property manager.

She is survived by one son, Bruce Rosemark of Las Vegas; and four sisters, Anne Sakach of Jefferson City, Mo., Sophie Krupor of Cleveland and Agnus Pribicko and Catherine Pribicko, both of Indiana, Pa.
