Complex sues county, flood district

Winchester Woods Apartments sued Clark County's Department of Parks and Recreation and the Regional Flood Control District, alleging they failed to repair their drain and drainage system, causing flood damage twice at several of Winchester's apartments when storms broke out on July 21, 1998, and July 8, 1999.

Winchester said rainwater overflowed a drain at Winchester Community Center instead of draining to the Flamingo Wash via the drainage system under Winchester's property at 3135 S. Mojave Road.

In the Clark County District Court suit, Winchester alleged seven of its apartments were damaged by flooding during a storm in July 1998. Another 17 apartments were damaged, newly installed landscaping washed away and one resident was injured when another storm hit a year later, the suit said.

A county official declined comment on the allegations.
