Harvard to honor Councilman Brown

Las Vegas City Councilman Larry Brown will be inducted into the Harvard Varsity Club's Hall of Fame on Friday.

Brown, a 1979 graduate, will be inducted for all-around performance due to his baseball and football careers with the Crimson. His double-lettering puts him in an exclusive class of Hall of Fame members as just 12 or 13 have been inducted for all-around performance.

"I guess it's a recognition that while I was there I played on some teams that did pretty well," Brown said.

As a pitcher on the baseball team, Brown posted 192 strikeouts and is still ranked third for wins in a season and season earned run average. Brown later played for the minor league Las Vegas Stars.

Brown also was named starting quarterback of the Harvard team his junior year. He set career records for most pass completions, most pass attempts, most yards passing, most career touchdown passes and best pass completion package.

He also set single-season records for most pass attempts and most yards passing and still holds Harvard's record for best single-game total offense.

"Not bad for a sport that was considered a second sport by the athlete," the press release from Harvard states.

Brown is among 16 Harvard athletes to be inducted during Friday's banquet in Boston.
