Allegiant to offer 17 new Vegas-Reno flights per week

Fresno, Calif.-based Allegiant Air, which offers nonstop flights between Las Vegas and two California cities, will add 17 nonstop round-trip flights a week between Las Vegas and Reno beginning next month.

The addition of three flights a day, Monday through Friday, and two a day on Sundays by Allegiant will nearly bring air service between Nevada's two largest cities to the level it was before American Airlines abandoned the route in July.

Southwest Airlines, the market leader in both cities, added its 10th flight between Reno and Las Vegas this month and America West Airlines has one late-night flight per day bringing the daily average to nearly 14.

Allegiant, announcing that it hopes to cater to the business traveler, said its 75-minute flights would leave Las Vegas at 7:30 a.m., 12:15 and 5:45 p.m., and the Reno departures would be at 9:15 a.m., 3 and 7:30 p.m. The morning departures operate Monday through Friday and the afternoon and evening flights will be offered Sunday through Friday.

Allegiant will operate 115-passenger DC-9 twin-engine jets on the route. The company has a fleet of four jets with 20 first-class seats and 95 in coach. The flights between McCarran International Airport and Reno-Tahoe International begin Nov. 1 and are priced from $99 round trip for coach to $269 round trip in first class.

Allegiant already offers service between Las Vegas and Fresno and Long Beach, Calif.
