Columnist Peter Benton: Golf store provides Christmas solutions

Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.

In case you aren't counting, or just haven't really thought about it, there are fewer than nine weeks (61 days) remaining until Christmas.

With that in mind, I would like to remind area golfers that it certainly is not too early for purchasing gifts and stocking stuffers.

What jolted my memory regarding the approaching festive season was a recent walk through In Celebration of Golf, a unique two-story, 14,000 square-foot golf emporium located in the Canal Shops at the Venetian hotel-casino.

This is Roger Maxwell's museum-like combination of 18 different themed "celebrations" -- enclosed and elaborately decorated wings with different carpeting, furniture, wall coverings and merchandise. Gifts, art, equipment, apparel and antiques -- in fact, anything related to golf -- is there.

Having written this column for almost 25 years, I have visited every golf store and pro shop in the area many times over. And I swear there is not one place that can remotely challenge the range and variety of merchandise and memorabilia that is available in this store.

One area, "The Art of the Game," features original paintings and sculptures from around the world, as well as fine reproductions, prints, serigraphs, lithographs and posters.

"The Men's and Ladies Professional's Shop" carries an inventory in excess of $1 million and features the finest selection and variety of name-brand clothing imaginable. Honestly, the range of colors and styles is mind-boggling.

Yet another area, "The Spike Shop," has the most incredible display of men's and women's golf shoes. I guarantee they have the size, color and style for you.
