House approves Washoe County land deal

The measure failed by 24 votes two weeks ago, but needed a two-thirds majority because it was put before the house under a special suspension of the rules.

It was approved on Tuesday after being re-introduced as normal legislation.

The current elementary school, built in 1964, is the only elementary school available children at Incline Village and is so overcrowded that the district is sending sixth graders to a middle school.

A modular addition was added to the school six years ago but also is near capacity.

The legislation by Gibbons, R-Nev., would sell 8.7 forest service acres to the Washoe County district for the school Companion legislation was introduced by Democrat Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan.
