Ieyoub says he’ll talk about conversation between Edwards and Koury

The transcript of the tape of Edwards and Connie Koury, released last week, has drawn criticism for Koury.

"I have carefully read the transcript and considered the context in which the conversation took place," Ieyoub said in a news release before promising to make a statement about the tape "by early next week, if not sooner."

During the taped conversation, Koury advises Edwards of a criminal matter that might come up concerning Edwards' brother, Marion.

"I'm telling you this so you can help me decide how I can help y'all," she said.

The conversation came out during Edwards' trial on racketeering charges stemming from the licensing of riverboat casino. Edwards was convicted in the case and will be sentenced in December. He is appealing his conviction.

Koury also revealed to Edwards an internal investigation against state police officer Kenny Norris.

She also complained about one of her colleagues, then-Assistant Attorney General Jenifer Schaye, who once headed the attorney general's gambling control division and consulted with Edwards about ways to oust Schaye.

Koury has said much of what she discussed with Edwards never happened. She characterized the conversation as speculative and casual.
