Red Rock Canyon offers busy hiking schedule

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers hikes and walks free of charge, but reservations are required for all programs, which begin at the Visitor's Center.

To make reservations or for information call 363-1922. Some coming programs:

Three Quarters White Rock Loop: Twelve year olds to adults are welcome to traverse four miles of the six-mile White Rock Loop Friday. This moderately strenuous trail is somewhat rocky and half of it is uphill. Sturdy shoes or boots recommended. Bring water and a snack.

Fletcher Canyon Hike: Adults are welcome on this three-plus-mile, moderately strenuous hike Saturday that will take you into the ponderosa and white fir at Mount Charleston. Discussion along the route will include topics about area geology, plants and wildlife.

A Spider Beside Her: Children to adults are welcome to this special exhibit and talk that will include a close-up, but safe, look at spiders, scorpions, ticks and other arachnids of the desert on Saturday.

Massive Red Rock Clean-up: Individuals and volunteer organizations will be removing graffiti and unwanted trails from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Contact Park Ranger, Jim Cribbs at 363-1921 to sign up.
