Water Authority thirsts for a shot of support

The Southern Nevada Water Authority, battered by critics of its proposal to build wells and pipelines to bring water from rural Nevada to the urban south, is looking for some local boosters.

The Water Authority is asking the Las Vegas City Council, the Clark County Commission, the Las Vegas Valley Water District and the Clark County Water Reclamation District to pass a resolution in support of its $3 billion plan to pipe in water from across the state.

The resolutions could be taken by Water Authority officials to the State Engineer when the agency seeks the right to begin the various projects.

The resolution declares that what's important for Clark County is important to Nevada, but don't tell that to residents in White Pine County, who have been outspoken in their opposition to the Water Authority's plans to take water from there.

Not surprisingly, the Water Authority doesn't plan to seek resolutions of support outside of Clark County.
