Lake Las Vegas:

Holiday festival boasts ice rink, Santa

A 40-foot-tall tree, an ice skating rink and Santa will be some of the highlights of this year's holiday festival at MonteLago Village in Lake Las Vegas, which arrives Friday.

The festivities begin at 6 p.m., when the tree will be lit. Santa and his elves will also be on hand at that time along with the Hope Baptist Church choir.

"There will be holiday decorations throughout the village," MonteLago Village events manager Andrea Day said.

One of the village's highlights is the ice rink, where admission is $12 for an all-day pass for children and $15 for adults. The rink will continue to be open from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Feb. 15.

Starting Nov. 15 and continuing every Saturday until Dec. 20, Santa will be taking visitors from 1 to 4 p.m. From 2 to 4 p.m. will be holiday performances by the Green Valley High School Choir.

Henderson will also be home to another holiday festival, Winterfest, beginning 7 p.m., Dec. 11 at the Henderson Events Plaza on Water Street with local high school choirs and a concert by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. The festival continues Dec. 12 with the tree lighting at 6 p.m. and entertainment beginning at 6:30, including ice skating, pony rides, a petting zoo, gingerbread house and a snow play area.

The Winterfest Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 13 with more performances throughout the day, including a 4 p.m. production of "A Christmas Carol."

Santa will also visit the Events Plaza from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 12, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 13, 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 16 and 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17.
