Seniors will have a turkey in their sights for Thanksgiving. But this one won't be on their plates.

Participants in the Henderson Senior Center's annual Turkey Shoot Nov. 21 will have the chance to nab a frozen bird if they land a BB-gun shot closest to the bulls-eye affixed to a cardboard turkey.

"We usually have some of the same participants each year," recreation program coordinator Cindy Rogers said. "They look forward to it — who can outdo whom. I think a lot of them in the past have been hunting."

A large cardboard turkey will be stationed on the center's outdoor patio. Bales of hay will be attached to the turkey to safely absorb the BB-gun pellets. Participants are allowed to place a paper bulls-eye on any part of the turkey, and each participants gets 10 shots.

"Most people do hit the (bulls-eye)," Rogers said. "Last year the winner hit right smack dab in the middle."

Shooting begins at 1 p.m., and the winner receives a turkey. Participants must be 50 or older and have a senior center ID. Cost is $1.
