The Boulder City High baseball team is in first place of the 3A Southern League after splitting a doubleheader with visiting Moapa Valley on March 27.

The Eagles dropped the first game 6-3, but rebounded to win the second 18-5 in five innings. Faith Lutheran and Virgin Valley, the league's other two schools, also split a doubleheader.

Boulder City scored 10 runs in the fifth inning of the second game to win by the mercy rule — when the game is called if one team is winning by 10 or more runs after five innings.

"(The big inning) made the loss feel a little better but we still have some issues," Boulder City coach Bill Strachan said.

One of those issues is difficulties in fielding, the coach said.

"We aren't going to be able to score 18 runs every game," Strachan said. "We need to find guys who want the ball hit to them."

Shane Levin led Boulder City by going a combined 3-for-6 with five runs and two RBIs in the doubleheader. Trevor Messina had three RBIs in the second game and Jack LaMarca scored four runs.

Adam Eudy was the winning pitching, giving up four hits and three earned runs in five complete innings. He added three runs and three RBIs.

Boulder City (2-4) travels to Faith Lutheran April 2 for a doubleheader.

Boulder City golfers take third

The Boulder City High golf team took third March 25 in a four-team 3A Southern League tournament it hosted at the Boulder City Municipal Golf Course.

The Eagles fired a 460 to edge fourth place Virgin Valley by one stroke. Faith Lutheran won the match with a 413 and Moapa Valley was second at 442.

"The kids are all working real hard and I am happy with that," Boulder City golf Bob Northridge said.

The Eagles' Jeremy Dunbar fired a team-low 78 while Ryan Roundtree and Nick Stevens added 87s.
