North Las Vegas Police are asking the public's help in finding an infant in need of immediate medical assistance who may be with her mother.

North Las Vegas Police detectives have been searching for 30-year-old Janette Nelson, who admitted herself to North Vista Hospital under an alias of Rochelle Brown, said Chrissie Coon, spokeswoman for North Las Vegas Police.

She gave birth on Feb. 9 to a baby girl at the hospital. After mother and infant were discharged from the hospital, it was learned that the baby has a severe infectious disease that needs immediate medical treatment, Coon said.

The disease is not a public health threat, but the infant needs medical treatment, Coon said.

Several attempts have been made to contact Nelson both by the police and Child Protective Services, Coon said. Evidence suggests that Nelson is on the run with the baby and refuses to seek medical attention for her daughter.

Nelson is 5-foot-4-inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. She was last seen in the area of Civic Center Drive and Cheyenne Avenue.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Janette Nelson or the baby girl is urged to contact Detective Dave Molnar at (702) 633-1779, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
