It’s not often that a volcano goes in for scheduled maintenance.

But this week Las Vegas’ own volcano at the Mirage was shut down for scheduled repairs, leaving some tourists disappointed that they missed the eruption of the Strip landmark during their stay.

A MGM Mirage spokesperson said the famous fiery pit was shut down Monday but will be back up and spewing lava by Friday.

The Mirage reopened its iconic volcano in December after it was shut down in February 2008 while it received a major facelift. The new four minute and 30 second show features all of the elements, with the volcano shooting water 120 feet in the air while fire shoots from the lagoon below, all to a primal soundtrack.
