Last week I had the opportunity to give a presentation about the Senior Center to a local philanthropic organization. Though most of the audience would be considered seniors, I had seen very few at our center. When I asked them about this, the general consensus was that they were "not old enough" to join or attend here.
I took the opportunity to both challenge and inform them about all that we do and have here at our Senior Center. I challenge them and all of you to make this center what you want it to be.
We are currently only open until 3 p.m., and we realize that there are many people who are still working past age 65 and not able to join us during the day. We have a beautiful building that needs to be used.
We are willing and able to hold activities later in the evening if there is interest. If you belong to a club, group or activity that needs a space to meet, perhaps this would be a good place.
If there is a group that would like to initiate line dancing or yoga in the evenings, let us know. We want to fill the needs of the community, but we need to know what you want. This is not my Senior Center, it is yours — all of yours.
During my presentation, I talked about the myriad resources that are available here. Most people were surprised by the number of things that are available right here, without having to leave Boulder City. We bring these things here because there is an interest, desire and a need.
I would ask you to help us to help you. Let's get some more activities going in the evenings. We need someone to volunteer their interest and skill and create some activities that will bring out active seniors. We know you are out there, we would like to see you in here!
Farmers Market returns
They are back. The Farmers Market will return to the Senior Center every Friday from 8 a.m.-noon beginning April 3. We are currently taking applications for the State of Nevada Farmer's Market Coupon books. Please ask at the front desk.
Center needs help
Please help us. Last week the Senior Center was closed due to a broken water heater. This resulted in a large, unexpected expense which we need to cover. No donation is too small. Please help us to defray the cost of this repair.
Sidewalk sale
Don't forget to attend our annual Sidewalk Sale on April 10 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and April 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
