Pedestrian struck trying to cross Charleston Blvd.

Pedestrian hurt in accident

A pedestrian trying to cross Charleston Boulevard outside a marked crosswalk was critically injured Wednesday night when he walked into the path of an SUV, Metro Police said.

At about 9:20 p.m., Jose Calderon, 32, attempted to cross Charleston from the south curb to the north curb about 500 feet west of Marion Drive, which is between Lamb and Nellis boulevards, police said. Calderon and another man stood on the raised center median before Calderon entered the westbound travel lanes and collided with the left side of a 1993 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Limbert Troncoso-Salazar, 22, of Las Vegas.

The area wasn't at an intersection or a marked crosswalk, police said. Calderon was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

The accident is under investigation, although pedestrian error is likely to blame, police said.
