flashpoint:

Give the School District credit

You have to give the School District credit for resourcefulness. The district, buffeted by cuts as every other government entity has been, is eager to get a final disposition on a waiver that would allow stimulus money to start flowing more quickly. So it contacted the secretary of education’s office and now Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley has written a letter to Arne Duncan inviting him to Nevada to meet with lawmakers. Don’t underestimate the importance for lawmakers of finding out just how soon the money could be coming here. They have only two months to finalize the budget and it would be nice to have Duncan come to the capital to see how bad education funding is in Nevada. Smart move.
