Pedestrian critically injured in Walgreens parking lot

Pedestrian collision

A 59-year-old Las Vegas woman walking in a parking lot was critically injured this morning when she was struck by a pickup truck, Metro Police said.

At about 7:44 a.m., Virginia Calip was crossing the parking lot of the Walgreens Pharmacy at 495 W. Tropicana Ave. when a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by Erlinda Stewart, 61, of Las Vegas, struck her, authorities said.

Calip was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Evidence at the scene indicates Calip was walking across a lane in the parking lot from south to north when the collision occurred; the truck was traveling northbound through the parking lot and turning as the pedestrian was struck, police said.

The accident is under investigation.
