Crash

A 70-year-old Las Vegas resident was critically injured Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle and becoming lodged beneath it at a North Las Vegas crosswalk, police said.

The victim was crossing North Las Vegas Boulevard westbound at Tonopah Avenue at 7:42 p.m. when a 2004 Toyota Corolla driven by a 53-year-old Las Vegas resident tried to turn right onto northbound Las Vegas Boulevard and struck the pedestrian, the North Las Vegas Police Department said.

The pedestrian became stuck under the vehicle and the Las Vegas Fire Heavy Rescue unit responded to extricate the person, police said. Information about the pedestrian's identity wasn't being released Sunday night.

The victim was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries and doesn't appear to be at fault, police said.

The incident is under investigation.
